The Sphere
The Floating City of Heaven
Type: Floating Island City | Also Known As: Heaven | Status: Active
Overview
The Sphere, reverently called "Heaven" by those dwelling on The Ground below, is a massive mobile floating island city suspended high in the sky through mysterious, unknown means. This aerial metropolis represents the pinnacle of civilization in the Gachiakuta anime universe—a gleaming paradise floating above a world drowning in its own refuse.
The Sphere's most defining characteristic is its role as the source of all trash and pollution that renders The Ground below uninhabitable. Every discarded object, every piece of waste from The Sphere's hyper-consumerist society falls to the world below, creating the toxic wasteland known as The Pit.
What makes The Sphere particularly fascinating is that its inhabitants—the Sphereites—have largely forgotten about The Ground's existence. This willful ignorance allows them to maintain their luxurious lifestyle without confronting the consequences of their consumption.
Extreme Social Stratification
The Sphere's society is characterized by extreme social and economic stratification, divided into two starkly different worlds separated by a massive wall.
The Upper Class District
The upper class section features pristine environments, mansion-like residences, superior infrastructure, and inhabitants who wear distinctive golden-symbolized attire. They consume the vast majority of The Sphere's resources and are the primary contributors to the waste dumped onto The Ground.
The Slums: Home of the Tribe Folk
Separated by a large wall, The Slums house the Tribe Folk—descendants of exiled criminals. The environment mirrors The Ground's conditions, with prevalent trash and haphazardly constructed buildings.
Despite harsh conditions, crime is relatively low as residents strive to redeem their family names and avoid exile to The Pit.
Historical Context & Exile System
Historically, criminals from The Sphere were exiled to the slums, creating the Tribe Folk population. Those who failed to conform even in the slums were eventually discarded into The Pit on The Ground below.
Over time, The Sphereites forgot about The Ground's existence entirely, living in blissful unawareness of the world their waste creates below.
Culture of Hyper-Consumerism
The Sphere's upper class engages in extreme hyper-consumerism, discarding items at the slightest imperfection. This creates a constant cycle of consumption and disposal that fuels The Sphere's economy while devastating The Ground below.
Discarded objects accumulate on The Ground and transform into dangerous Trash Beasts, making the world increasingly uninhabitable while The Sphere's citizens enjoy luxury.
The Apostles: Law Enforcement
The Apostles serve as The Sphere's administrative and law enforcement body, responsible for maintaining public order, preventing crime, and enforcing the exile system that maintains the social hierarchy.
The Mystery of The Sphere's Power
The mechanism by which The Sphere remains afloat is completely unknown. Theories suggest it could be powered by Giver abilities, by consuming anima from discarded objects, or through ancient technology.
Role in the Gachiakuta Anime
The Sphere serves as both a physical location and a powerful symbol throughout the anime. It represents everything the protagonists have lost, everything they're fighting against, and paradoxically, everything some hope to return to.
For characters like Rudo, who was exiled from The Sphere, it represents both home and the source of profound injustice. The physical separation maintained by The Border serves as a metaphor for social distance.
